Playing NYC clubs as a guitarist throughout his life, Geoff Grayson founded a popular local band, scored a publishing deal, then a major label record deal and produced his first album, only to have it shelved due to a quickly changing music business. After producing other artists, scoring jingles, and making video game music, Geoff grew disillusioned by the drama of the business and decided to take a sabbatical
Years later, now living in Boulder, CO, Geoff met his next-door neighbor and guitarist Mark Kranjcec during the thousand year flood. Similarly, Mark was also on a musical hiatus after years of playing in bands, producing artists and composing soundtracks. One day, Mark hopped up on his fence and asked Geoff if he'd like to take a shot at singing one of his songs. The result was Gravity. As Geoff recalls, "Mark's sense of melody and song-first method writing was enlightening...and he could shred like nobody I had seen in awhile!"
They kept writing songs while searching for a singing bassist who could reproduce the harmonies Geoff arranged on their recordings. A year elapsed before Geoff stumbled onto a Craigslist ad placed by bassist Andrew Harrington (aka &y).
Andy moved to Boulder in the summer of '93 after graduating with a music degree, a homemade bass, and no plans for the future. After playing with an underground local band for a number of years, Andy took time off to focus on family and career. In the summer of 2016 he began the search for a high-energy, song-oriented rock project that emphasized groove and melody. After jamming with Geoff and Mark, it was quite clear Andy was the man for the band. "He was able to hit the high Boston and Queen harmonies which blew me away" Geoff explains.
Together, the Flat Earth Committee are wrapping up their debut album and preparing to hit the stages of Colorado and beyond. Keep an eye out for the trio's upcoming live shows, which promise to deliver a fusion of energy, groove, texture, tension and infectious melodies delivered via powerfully-written songs.
